Vehicle Count
Add your name and how many vehicles you will have, also note if you can carpool
@rockgrrl - From Ventura, CA. I'll be coming out early in the week (Tues?) & will have a 4 seater (3 folks plus gear depending on amount of stuff).
@pwcarey - Flying into SFO on Nov 9th, stealing a car, driving to pick up @katiebeth, Josh and @tiffanymroyal in Fresno on Nov 10th, arrive JT on the 11th. Leave JT on the 14th to drop Tiff off at PSP then drive North to SFO.
@eleddy - depends. if someone wants to carpool from san francisco we can work that out. otherwise I'll fly into san diego and hitch a ride there.
@dubid0 - From Santa Barbara, CA. Should be able to fit 2 more.
@adrienneknits -- from sf bay area. i'd be willing to carpool.
@katiebeth - from Central CA...willing to carpool w/Bay Area folk?
@patrickgensel - flying into PSP on the 10th, anyone able to give this east coaster a ride :)
@dmasten - I'm picking up 3 people from LAX (@BillUrbanski,@archweaver,@BlueSkeyes207) and returning them.
@RikRay - Will pool, may be departing Bay Area if I'm moved by then. If not, driving one truck. (not making KB drive this year )
@tiffanymroyal - driving down with @pwcarey and @katiebeth from Fresno, flying out of PSP on Sunday Nov 14 at 6 p.m.
@theclimbergirl - will be relying on some kindness from friends. :) May drive; TBD. Will coordinate with the PNW crew as the dates get closer and plans firm up.
@mtsquirrel - flights: arrive PSP 1920 Wed 11/10, depart PSP 1757 Sun 11/14. Looking for a carpool or a ride.
@dloo - Have to fly in somewhere. Carpool, anyone? If not, renting a car and likely coming in from Ontario.
@billurbanski - Fly in 11/10. Fly out 11/14. Looking to carpool to/from LAX.
@kg - Me + 1 will be in SF, probably flying down, but if someone needs riders, that could work too [we both have cars with 200K+ miles=trying conserve miles]. We also have other friends camping/climbing in JT same wknd, will be with them part of the time, in case that's helpful for camping/overnight numbers? Also have a car of friends (1-3) hoping to join from San Diego. - kg, yeah it would really help out if you had your own camping arrangements :) When would you be arriving though? If it's early enough it may not be an issue @rockgrrl
Campsite Info
Park Entrance Fee Options:
7-Day Vehicle Permit$15
Joshua Tree National Park Annual Pass$30
Interagency Annual Pass: $80 this pass replaces the National Park Pass and Golden Eagle Passport. It provides access to Federal recreation sites, including National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Forest Service.
Campsite Fees:
Hidden Valley, Belle, Ryan, Jumbo Rocks and White Tank campgrounds are $10 a night. You pay using an envelope system once you've found a site.
Sheep's Pass has a group campsite for $25, it must be reserved.
Campsite Plan:
I'll be doing my plan from last year and getting sites early in the week as we were unable to get a group campsite and everything left is first come first served (the majority of the park is this way). I can't guarantee I'll be able to get a site for everyone but last year we were lucky and not only did I get enough sites to fit all of us but we even got them all in a row in Ryan Campground. If you don't need a campsite let me know because I'll be aiming for 4 sites again (6 people, 3 tents, 2 cars per site means that will cover 24 folks without any issues with rangers). Please bring cash for camping fees, sharing between everyone it should end up being pretty economical. I'll get the word out which site is base camp and other camp site numbers by Thursday (if not sooner) via email and a note on the back of the Ryan Campground bulletin board. I'll set up my Google voice mail again like I did last year as well - @rockgrrl (updated 10/7/10)
Backup Camping Options:
There is BLM land near Joshua Tree
Hotels/Motels in Joshua Tree (the town)
Hotels/Motels in 29 Palms
If things are full and you don't want a hotel or BLM you can backpack on the boy scout trail, It's close and you only have to be one mile from the road to set up. I have done this when hidden valley and everything near that was completely full and it worked out well (quiet and peaceful). There is a backcountry parking lot near the entrance to get on the trail.
Routes
Gear
i.e. We will need 30 ropes, 50 biners, firewood, etc
@pwcarey - I can bring a 50m rope and cameras. I plan on doing more still and video than climbing this time.
@dmasten - will bring a rope, bunch of biners, and various and sundry webbing
@rockgrrl - rack, cameras, the old thick Jtree guidebook, BoulderCanyon snacks and Climb On! Product! If anyone else reading this is interested in sponsoring contact me: rockgrrl at the same plus .com
@tiffanymroyal - can try to fit in the rope in pack. biners, webbing, etc. i have the Falcon Guide to West Joshua Tree climbing (i think its that one). And Climb On to share. and Joshua Tree Salve as well. :) - @rockgrrl I think we'll have the softest skin out in Jtree that weekend! haha :)
@theclimbergirl - at least one rope; single cams from yellow alien size to BD Camalot 4; draws; camera; video; the big ol inch deep JTree book and a smile.
@mtsquirrel - Interagency pass, as much rack as I can fit into a carryon (can I mooch off everyone's ropes?)
@patrickgensel - trad rack, singles up to #4 camalot, two sets of stoppers, lots o slings, 10 sport draws, webbing, 70m rope, Camera, video cam, Jtree book
@dloo - 60m rope, full set of draws.
@billurbanski - 60m rope, full passive rack, few smaller cams.
@Blueskeyes207 - Do I really need to bring a rope? Full set of Draws - maybe stoppers. Depends on how motivated I am. Trad routes of JTree book + Camera and a bazillion gigs of memory so I can film everything.
Rockgrrl's Guide Book Shop - I suggest getting the 1st book (Trad Guide to Jtree) plus either the 3rd (Rock climbing Jtree) or the 4th book (Rockclimbing JTree West). I own the 1st and 3rd books.
Free Stuff
Climbers Coffee - Bring your own mug.
Most Saturdays and Sundays during the peak climbing season.
@ Hidden Valley Campground near Intersection Rock
8 am til the coffee runs out [@rockgrrl they also have hot cocoa]
