Nor'easter 2011 Climbing Rendezvous

Page history last edited by Jeremy Devine 12 years, 7 months ago

Climbing is Dangerous

Climbing is inherently dangerous and the risk of death or serious injury can never be completely eliminated. It is up to each individual to make his or her own choices regarding acceptable risk. Tweetups are collaborative efforts with no individual organizers, and each participant only assumes liability for their own well being, just as you assume liability for yours! Cheers!

Important

Meeting at the @AAC_Northeast Tent every morning at 9am. Plans can be made then as to where everyone would like to go, carpooling, gear needs, etc.

Participants - Who's Planning on Going?

If you think you might be able to make it, put your name on the list with any relevant notes. (i.e. possibly bringing friends, etc. Hashtag: #

  • @DevineClimbing - Hatched this idea in order to find some partners and show out-of-towners the local climbing areas!

Climbing info

If you've got any must-do routes or problems, here's where you record that!

There are three main climbing areas near Burlington.

Bolton - Located 30 minutes away this is a great place for top-roping (75'+ static recommended) at Lower West and some great leading at the Upper West cliff as well. A great selection of everything from 5.6 slabs to 5.11 overhanging cracks.

Smuggler's Notch - Great bouldering in a beautiful mountainous setting. About 1 hour away. The New England Bouldering guide gives a good description of the area. I'd say if anyone want to make there way up there most problem benefit from multiple crash pads. 3 minimum to keep your options open.

Adirondack Park - The furthest drive at 1.5 hours, but well worth it for any die-hard trad climbers. The Chapel Pond Pass area has great single pitching mainly in the moderate 5.8 to super-hard range. Poke-O-Moonshine cliff is the other easy to access location with a ton of multipitch trad routes 5.8 and up.

Opinions, preferences, etc:

@DevineClimbing - I plan on being back for the concerts in the evenings and the UBC Protour Finals at 3pm on Saturday. So I think Bolton Saturday is the best bet because its close.
