6th Annual JTree Tweetup - 2014

Page history last edited by TerriB 9 years, 1 month ago

Climbing is Dangerous

Climbing is inherently dangerous and the risk of death or serious injury can never be completely eliminated. It is up to each individual to make his or her own choices regarding acceptable risk. Tweetups are collaborative efforts with no individual organizers, and each participant only assumes liability for their own well being, just as you assume liability for yours! Cheers!

Hello Everyone, Peter here. While I am now a lame climber I am looking forward to this tweetup as an excuse to get back into climbing shape and a chance to see friends I have missed. I now live in Orange, CA part of the time, just two hours from Joshua Tree and will be helping organize the meetup this year. I can help secure a camping site or two (three tents and two car limit at each site) and I plan on being out there from Thursday the 12th until Friday or hopefully Saturday. Just have to see what the family schedule it like. Obviously folks are welcome the whole weekend long.

UPDATE: While the climb is still on, I, Peter, can't make the trip this Spring. I'm bummed. It also means the organization needs to fall into other hands. Any volunteers?

Please update the list below if you can make it. Please also fill in your preference for a campground.

Backup Camping Options:

  • There is BLM land near Joshua Tree
  • Hotels/Motels in Joshua Tree (the town)
  • Hotels/Motels in 29 Palms
  • If things are full and you don't want a hotel or to camp on BLM land you can backpack on the boy scout trail, It's close and you only have to be one mile from the road to set up. I have done this when Hidden Valley and everything near that was completely full and it worked out well (quiet and peaceful). There is a backcountry parking lot near the entrance to get on the trail.
